Frequently Asked Questions:

All Things Interior Design Consulting

Here's everything you need to know about working with Kathryn of KN Design and Consulting.

Do you offer full-service interior design?

No — and that's intentional. KN Design + Consulting is consultation-only. That means no long contracts, no product markups, and no project management fees. You get expert interior design guidance for exactly what you need, and you stay in control of your project from start to finish. If you're looking for someone to take over completely, I'm not the right fit — but if you want a professional in your corner to help you make smart, confident decisions, that's exactly what I do.

What's the difference between the three consultations?

It comes down to what you're working on. The Remodel Planning Strategy Session($295, 75 min) is for homeowners actively planning a kitchen, bathroom, basement, or other renovation who need expert guidance on finishes, fixtures, layouts, and decisions. The In-Home Design Consultation ($225, 60 min) is for homeowners who want help making their existing space work better — furniture arrangement, styling, what to keep, what to lose. The Paint Color Consultation ($150, 30 min) is focused entirely on color — picking the right palette, coordinating finishes, and walking away with curated Sherwin-Williams samples. Not sure which fits your situation? Book a free 10-minute intro call and we'll figure it out together.

How long is each consultation?

The Remodel Planning Strategy Session is 75 minutes. The In-Home Design Consultation is 60 minutes. The Paint Color Consultation is 30 minutes. All sessions are focused and efficient — you won't be paying for small talk.

Where do consultations take place?

In-Home Design Consultations/Strategy Sessions and Paint Color Consultations happen at your home in Colorado Springs. Remodel Planning Consultations take place on-site at your home or at a local showroom or shop — wherever makes the most sense for your project. Virtual consultations are available by request.

How do I book a consultation?

Start with a free 10-minute intro call so we can talk through your project and make sure we're a good fit. From there, we'll schedule your consultation at a time that works for you. Currently booking about two weeks out as of
fall 2026.

What should I have ready before my consultation?

For a Remodel Planning Strategy Session, bring any plans, inspiration photos, finish samples, or contractor quotes you have — the more context, the better. For an In-Home Consultation, just have your space as it normally looks (no need to clean frantically — I'm here to help, not judge). For a Paint Consultation, gather any existing swatches, fabric samples, or flooring you're working around. A quick scroll through your Pinterest board beforehand never hurts either.

What are your qualifications?

I'm a formally trained interior designer (Bachelor of Interior Design from Ryerson University) with hands-on experience across residential projects in Colorado, editorial design work for top magazines across the U.S. and Canada, and contributions to an HGTV home makeover show. Every consultation is grounded in real design expertise — not trend-chasing or guesswork.

Will you tell me what I want to hear, or what I need to hear?

What you need to hear. Honest feedback is the whole point. If your rug is the wrong size, I'll tell you. If your cabinet choice is going to date badly, I'll tell you that too. You're paying for a professional opinion, and that's what you'll get — delivered with kindness, not criticism.

Do you have trade discounts or vendor relationships in Colorado Springs?

Yes. I have relationships with local vendors and showrooms in Colorado Springs, which can make the selection process more efficient — especially during a remodel consultation. I'll point you toward trusted resources so you're not starting from scratch.
